The Blue Palawan Kite Open

The Philippines are well known by wakeboarders all around the globe for the numerous cable parks built there. It was only a matter of time before the tropical warm wind also attracted the kiteboarders. The Blue Palawan International Kite Open was big this year.

Event organizers and Best Kiteboarding team rider Paula Rosales invited many riders in the new spot of Blue Palawan to shred the Asia’s first Kiteboard Terrain Park. I really want to thank Paula for her invitation! From now on, we have a kitepark to train our freestyle and wakestyle during the winter. The Kitepark includes 3 features: A big Fun Box, a nice Rooftop and a great Kicker, made in the USA by the best kitepark shaper, Joby Cook.

The kite spot in front of Blue Palawan is a wide open space with shallow water far from the reef. The place is incredible for this kind of event. The Blue Palawan Kite Open event happened from the 13th to 19th of January in the Blue Palawan resort in Puerto Princessa with 36 riders coming from all around the globe: USA, Poland, Russia, Germany, France, Canada and Denmark. Competitors were split into different heats of 4-5 riders and was trying to reach the highest score in hitting obstacles one at a time Fun Box, Rooftop and Kickers, and make an accumulative score of their 2 highest hits.

Paula Rosales was super busy during the event as she was in charge of managing and micromanaging everything. She organized one of the best events in her area and made sure everyone was happy!

During the days without wind, all riders had the chance to explore Palawan island local sites: visiting a rancho or going to whitesand beaches and surf spots. And to enjoy the amenities at the Blue Palawan resort, riders were hosted every night to various local restaurants and cinemas.
