Best hits the Bridge of the Gods

At the last weekend of July the annual Bridge of the Gods Kite Fest was held in beautiful Stevenson, WA. For those of you who haven’t heard of this kite contest, it is most certainly one of a kind. Held on the Columbia Gorge, this event holds the only natural stadium that seems intended for just this kind of event. Riders throw their tricks right next to the hillside and watch from eye-level as the competitors spin, grab and twist right in front of their eyes! It isn’t many contests that “Crowd-Stoke” is an actual category – but here it is. Spectators are encouraged to cheer for their favorite riders as they have a say in who will be the victor.

This year was a fantastic showing, with some of the closest finals the event has ever seen! The Amateur division was loaded with the best local riders in the Gorge as well as some coming from as far as the Dominican Republic. The event is truly focused on the Amateur division as kiteboarding rarely has the opportunity to reward the up and comers. Over 20 sponsors donated prizes to the Amateur contest. Best gave away the top prize, an 2014 8m TS – which the 2nd place finished in the Amateurs took home! Needless to say, he was stoked!

If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out the event – it is worth competing in, regardless of your level. Never is there a better opportunity to progress and be supported by a large group of fans – encouraging you to give it your all. Truly a fun time to be had!

Our own Best Team had a great result with Team Riders Grom Gromley, Rachel Callahan and Rich Sabo all taking the Top 3 in their respective divisions.
