A week in Tatajuba
I arrived in Brazil just 3 weeks ago on Oct 10th. For the first couple of weeks I spent my time in a small fishing village in northeast Brazil called Taiba just one hour from Fortaleza. The conditions in Taiba are amazing! There is a flat water lagoon just 2km from my apartment which has made for a great training grounds.
The last week of October I headed five hours north along the Brazilian coast line to a spot called Tatajuba, where I spent one week working with KiteWorldwide and competing in a local kite regatta. I spent the week in Tatajuba coaching a clinic with KiteWorldwideto a group of ten advanced kiteboarders, mostly Europeans. The conditions in Tatajuba were great and mother nature pulled through with wind everyday. All of the students were able to achieve their goals from landing there first jumps to working on front and back rolls. Really happy to have been there and contribute to their success in the early stages of their freestyle kiteboarding.
To cap off the week there was kiteboarding regatta: Zona do Vento Tatajuba Kite Race. In the men's divisions there were 26 participants and 10 in the womens. It was 6 man heats with 2 riders advancing from each heat to make up the finals. I managed to take 1st in my first heat which put me into the finals. The wind had dropped a bit for the finals but I stayed on the same size kite regardless. I had a tough start and fell back a few places on the start line. I managed to catch up to the leader of the race but wasn’t able to pass him in time before the finish. I took second overall in the race and Marissa Dodd took first in the women’s division.
Big thanks to Benny from KiteWorldwide and Zona do Vento for a great time in Tatajuba!
