RV SUMMER TOUR 2007: The RV at the Triple S, Cape Hatteras

Tuesday June 5th 2007

After leaving Jekyll Island, the search for wind continued up the East Coast without much luck. We stopped at Palm Island outside of Charleston to check the conditions with next to no wind. Eventually, the RV made it to the Real centre by Friday afternoon ... after waiting over 2hrs to get the RV through the truck wash along the way.

The first few days of the event saw light winds as Tropical Storm Barry passed over the Cape with heavy rain late Saturday night for the opening party and all day Sunday. The event kicked off with a wave session out off the lighthouse Sunday afternoon, with some solid head high-to-overhead swells and strong side shore winds. Andy was ripping out in the surf and even on the beach as he skated across the sand to the small lagoon next to the peanut gallery, and then back again to the waves on the outside. Kristin was out there on the directional board with Sean enjoying his first real wave session out of the Keys.

Yesterday (Monday June 4th) saw the competition really take shape with all three disciplines achieved in one day. The slick and slider sessions took place from early morning to mid-afternoon, before the event got mobile and moved down the coast to hit the surf with strong side-off winds and fun head-high waves rolling through.

Andy was killing it on the slider and in the slick throwing flat 3's off the slider and showcasing his "grasshopper" style.

Sean was equally impressive hitting the slider and doing smooth grabs for the cameras.

Miguel and Will came out to shoot and ripped it up as well in the slick before the competition hit the surf late afternoon. All in all, the day didn't stop moving and everyone was beat before the late afternoon storm moved through. 25 knot+ wind and three disciplines in one day ... what more could you ask for?

Today (Tuesday, June 5th) … pretty much the same. The wind picked up later in the morning but the slider session in the slick saw all the riders having fun on the John Wayne and the Red Bull sliders. Andy and few of the riders were handle-passing off the kicker over the barrier into the slick. Kristin and Sean were killing the slider by late morning as the wind just continued to pick up.

And it just goes on. Late night slider session out in the front with some DJ's helping people get into the groove. More soon from the Triple S.
