Leaving Minnesota...

Heading west on a twelve-hour-plus long haul from Alexandria to Lake McConaughy, we had to pass through South Dakota. While driving through we noticed a group of lakes just off the highway so we pulled off and started exploring.

Some curious locals noticed us driving around and jumped in their vehicles to come and see what we were up to. They were very friendly and led us to one of the only access points on the lake and stuck around to get a glimpse of the first people to ever kite there.

The wind was strong and it blew all day. It was great to get some time on the water to break up the long journey.

Our arrival in Nebraska ...

Lake McConaughy is a man-made reservoir that sits like an oasis in the middle of surrounding farms. Eight miles long, striking blue water and clean white sand makes it an idea place for families to hang out.

Bob and Billy Stalker from The Kite Ranch welcomed us with open arms and immediatly made us feel welcome.

The local kiters were all camped down by the lake, and later that night we had a BBQ. We decided to call it an early night as the wind was forecasted, although the locals partied till dawn playing Euro House around the campfire. We had a couple of good evening sessions and was nice to kite in such a scenic setting and to meet some great new friends.

After a few days on the lake, it was time to press on once more on yet another twelve-hour drive across Middle America to Salt Lake City, Utah. The wind on the lakes at this time of year is pretty non-existent so rather than wait around for what would probably be a fruitless couple of days we jumped straight back in the RV and headed off to San Francisco for, yup you guessed it, another 12 hours driving.

Please stop by and see us at Confluent Entertainment's Big Air Wind Jam at Crissy Field, San Francisco, California. We will be meeting up with other BEST team members at the event including Kristin Boese and Stacey Fonas!
