Best Schools Premier Destination: Extreme Control Kiteboarding - Mexico
XTC Kite School

Welcome to Extreme Control Kiteboarding. We are happy to announce our news for the season 2008. After 3 years of experience in teaching kiteboarding, Extreme Control is still running the first Kite Surfing Center of Riviera Maya situated right on the kiteboarding spot at El Paraíso Beach Club in Tulum.

You can come here with your family having one of the BEST days of your holiday kiting and relaxing at the same time. We created a friendly and fun atmosphere for all of our kiter clients and for sure for our great local friends. As well, we are happy to have a great photographer with us on the beach "Carla" that will be happy to take some great shots of you.

Kiteboarding Lessons

We will be really happy to have you learn the Art of Kiteboarding with our team. All our instructors are IKO certified and multilingual, we offer any level of lesson in English, Spanish, Italian and French, all of us are expert kiteboarders with over 3 to 5 years experience of teaching and riding, we teach what we love.

The warm waters of Mexico and tropical sun of the Caribbean make it perfect to spend hours in the ocean learning kiteboarding when taking your IKO certification course, going on downwind trips or riding waves on the reef break. The open stretches of powdery white beaches and side on shore winds are the ideal environment to learn or improve your kitesurfing skills.

With a southerly wind, you might have the opportunity to ride in front of the Tulum ruins and view them from a special perspective.Usually a beginner lesson takes around 8 hours to learn the basics of this sport. Our classes focus on teaching you how to control the kite, which is the most important thing to be able to start working with the board, the water re-launch, the self rescue, and to help prevent problems. We usually do 4 hours the first day, beginning with flying a trainer kite on the beach then assembling all the equipment of an inflatable 4 lines kite and ending with you dragging in the water while moving the kite one side to the other .The next day you may take another 2 to 3 hours where you will assemble the kite by your self under the supervision of the instructor and then you will go in the water to keep practicing the body dragging and the water re-launch until you are ready for the board.

Transportation

There are several options in getting to Tulum from Cancun airport or from Playa Del Carmen. Here are your options:

Rent A Car:

This is your most convenient option as then you will be mobile throughout your trip to sightsee. The cheapest is to reserve your car online. We have had success with Thrifty car rental. Please note that making a reservation online does not mean your car will be ready. In most cases be prepared for a bit of a wait to get your car. If you want to wait until you arrive, there is a wide selection of car rental companies in the terminal as you arrive in Cancun. They do charge a fee if you do not want to return the car to Cancun and would like to drop it off in Playa Del Carmen or Tulum.

Green Line or Grey Line Shuttles:

There are vans that drop people off throughout the Riviera Maya. They charge $35 USD per person and will drop you off right at your hotel. You must wait for the 15 passenger vans to fill up before they leave so you could wait a little bit. Also, Tulum is their last stop and they wait until they have other clients going close to Tulum. This also could mean a little bit of a wait. But, hey, it's Mexico, right, and you are on vacation!

Taxi:

The fastest and easiest way is to just hire a taxi to take you to your hotel. You will pay about $90 USD to arrive in Tulum and you can fit up to 4 people in the taxi. This is the more efficient if you have a group of 4 or less.

Bus:

The bus is your cheapest option. They charge you $8 USD and they leave to Playa Del Carmen every hour. You catch them at the far right end of the airport as you exit the terminal. You must walk past the airport and you will find the buses parked in a parking lot. The name is ADO. Once you arrive in Playa Del Carmen you must then take a bus to Tulum. This costs about $6 USD. You will arrive in the heart of Tulum and from there you can take a taxi to the hotel for about $4 USD.

Where to stay:

The Hotel “Uolis Nah” is located in the town of Tulum Mexico, about one and a half hours south of the Cancun Airport. In the Riviera Maya, Tulum is known for its gorgeous white sandy beaches, ancient Mayan ruins, jungle cenotes (freshwater pools and caves) and the world renowned Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. Tulum is one of the few places remaining where you can kick off your shoes and enjoy the natural serenity of this unique environment.

Hotel “Uolis Nah” is a charming little hotel with 6 open-space apartments divided into three two-story round villas. They are all equipped with full kitchens, lounge area with a sofa bed for one person, terrace with garden view and bathrooms with beautiful mosaic-tiled floors. The double bed is separated by a semi wall so that they can easily accommodate up to three adults.

The common outdoor area is surrounded by a stunning garden with hammocks where you can relax and chill out. Uolis Nah is the ideal getaway for families and groups of friends. Perfect for those who prefer the convenience of being close to the town centre, Tulum’s nightlife, and its amazing beaches without paying a premium price. As well, Uolis Nah offers extended stays for those who want to learn kiteboarding, diving or those who just want to experience Tulum life.

You will be centrally located so that you can enjoy all that Tulum offers. Uolis Nah is only a 5 minute drive to the beach, the Mayan ruins and Gran Cenote. At walking distance you can find the supermarket, bank, internet, car hire, pharmacy and a short walk from there you’ll be at the beginning of Tulum’s main avenue with its various restaurants and shops. For those who intend renting a car it’s the strategic spot to start your trips to Playa del Carmen (40mins), Coba ruins (25mins), the Sian Kaan biosphere nature reserve (30mins), and Punta Allen (3hours).

Uolis Nah offers a special discount to guests with 10% off on all kiteboarding and diving activities. It is a perfect place to stay while you do a course with Extreme Control Kiteboarding and Diving School. We also offer a wide array of tours such as our special Whale Shark tour, snorkeling and fishing trips.

Last but not least our guests are welcome to enjoy themselves at La Zebra Beach Club where we offer free access to the Sports centre, showers, toilets, the use of beach beds and 10% discount at their fabulous Mexican restaurant.

Things to do:

After a long day Kiteboarding or Diving how can you miss a cold beer sitting on a beautiful terrace on the Caribbean Ocean?Well in “Mezzanine” you will find awesome service, excellent Thai-Food and an unforgettable view. As well, every Friday night in Mezzanine you will enjoy the best party in town with international DJ’s and great shows. For those who want to keep their feet in the sand El Paraiso Beach Club is the beach bar in Tulum. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a drink during the sunset or go out on Saturday nights for another great party only few steps from the ocean. For some late night fun you can find the locals hanging out at Acabar. They have live music throughout the week with an upstairs billiard room and big screen viewing of movies. There are also many places to enjoy an excellent dinner. La Nave 9 my favorite restaurant) is located in town and is one of our best Italian Restaurants where you can have an authentic wood oven pizza and true Italian pasta dishes. For sure you will want to try some typical Mexican food… just walking on Tulum’s main street you will find Los Mariachis, Don Cafeto, and many others.

By the ocean many restaurants offers incredible atmosphere and excellent locally caught fish or Mexican specialties. Papaya Playa offers a new great terrace overlooking the ocean where you can enjoy a typical Mexican dinner enjoying the tropical breeze. Piedra Escondida has a perfect deck to enjoy happy hour as well as great fish and pasta. Posada Margherita is a hidden charm with savory authentic Italian dishes. Make sure you make a reservation.
