Our school is located in Table View, Cape Town, South Africa. Just 20 minutes north of central Cape Town, our lessons operate from the beautiful Blouberg beach, with stunning views of Table Mountain. Upon arrival At Cape Town Airport, we recommend that you either hire a car or get a Taxi Cab to Blouberg Beach. Directions from Cape Town International Airport: From Cape Town International Airport, jump onto the N2 highway towards Cape Town central. Turn right onto the N7 highway going north and follow that until the Plattekloof turnoff to the left. This takes you to a T-junction where you turn right and continue until you turn left onto Blouberg Road. Follow this road all the way to the traffic circle on the beach. The school is associated with the Best KiteboardingAfrica retail shop, just over the road from Blouberg beach, also known as Kitebeach.
Wind Conditions: Summer Wind: From October through April the famous “Cape Doctor” blows consistently 4 - 5 days a week. The direction is southeast and is cross-shore from the left along most of Blouberg beach a.k.a Kitebeach. It normally starts blowing early in the morning at speeds of 10 - 15 knots and gradually picks up to 15 - 20 knots by midday. The afternoons usually bring a dramatic increase in wind speed up to 20 - 25 knots. However, it is not uncommon for it to pick up to 30 - 35 knots by late afternoon. The southeast is fuelled by a high pressure system off the west coast of South Africa, resulting in very a powerful breeze. Due to the regular wind during these months, the swell becomes flattened, but the odd waves still comes through. These months provide the best conditions for learning to kitesurf. Winter Wind: From May through September, the weather is dominated by cold fronts passing by from the Antarctic, bringing with them northwesterly winds most often accompanied by rain. These winds are also cross-shore, but from the right. Since they feed off low pressure systems, the north westerlies are not as powerful as the summer winds. Water Conditions: Water Temperature: Water temperatures in summer plummet from October to April due to the wind, reading as low as 11 °C (51.8°F), however ambient temperatures can exceed 30 °C (86 °F). A 4/3 wetsuit is suitable for this time of year. Water temperatures rise up to 18 °C (64.4 °F) from May to September( South African winter time) , but ambient temperatures can fall below 15 °C (59 °F). A 4/3 wetsuit is still appropriate, but the wind-chill factor can make for very cold conditions. Ocean swells pick up during these winter months, generated by strong cyclonic systems to the south of South Africa, bringing waves of up to 5 meters to Blouberg beach. The world renowned Red Bull Big Wave Africa Surfing competition takes place during these winter months of huge swells.
