A lot happened during the last year: triumphs were celebrated, defeats suffered, newcomers conquered the world, comebacks were made - sometimes more, sometimes less successful ...
sport2.de – Germany's leading Extreme sports online Magazine - called the Extreme sports community together to elect their Extreme sports Athletes of the year 2008. And it was not an easy choice as there was one female and one male nominee for each of the 10 categories that sport2 had followed through the year:

Male: SNOWBOARD: David Engelhardt, KITE: Mario Rodwald, MTB: Timo Pritzel, BMX: Patrick "Paddy" Gross, WINDSURF: Klaas Voget, SURF: Marlon Lipke, MOTO-X: Busty "Airwastl" Wolter, SKATE: Jürgen Horrwarth, WAKE: Daniel "Fetzy" Fetz, FREESKI: Thaddäus "Thadde" Joas
In the female competiton Kristin Boese cleared the field. The Kite girls secured her first place with 29% of all votes and outpaced the other competitors - as usual. Second place goes to Vera Janssen: the female Snowboarder could gain 14.6% of the votes and leave Skateboarder Kim Wibbelt behind with a close 14.2%.
In the male division the community gave the vote to Wakeboarder Daniel Fetz. He managed to raise 17,5 % of the electorates. Busty Wolter (Motorcross) did not gain quite as many votes but with 14.6% got still enough for second place. Bronze goes to Juergen Horrwarth. The "prehistoric" Skater had 12.4 % of the community behind him.
