South Padre Island, Texas is one of the windiest kiteboarding destinations in the world! Combined with warm water and air temperatures, very few crowds, and a million acres of shallow bay water makes South Padre a top kitesurfing location. The City of South Padre Island is located on the world’s longest barrier island at the southern tip of Texas. The island thrives on tourism, and therefore has extensive accommodations for lodging and dining. Most importantly, South Padre offers year round kiteboardingand kitesurfing with consistent ocean breezes. South Padre is an excellent place to learn how to kiteboard. Flat, shallow water is more than abundant in the Laguna Madre Bay, where all kiteboarding lessonstake place. If you are more advanced, then look no further than the Gulf of Mexico side of the island. With more than 15 miles head high waves and wide-open beaches, South Padre has some great down winders!

IKO and PASA certified kiteboarding instructors hold private or group lessons in
the shallow warm water of the Laguna Madre Bay. Lessons are available in English
or Spanish. Air Padre Kiteboarding expedites the learning process with support boats,
radio helmets, and modern de-powerable kites for safety. In addition to lessons,
Air Padre has an extensive retail space, demos new kiteboarding equipment, and rents
kiteboards, surfboards, land boards, SUPs, and other water sports equipment by the
day or the week. Stop by the shop and check them out anytime. Open 7 days a week,
they will gladly answer any of your kiteboarding or local area questions.

GETTING HERE
Valley International Airport (VIA) located in Harlingen, Texas is only 50 minutes
inland from the island. There is now a bus transportation system from the Harlingen
Airport called the ‘South
Padre Shuttle’, which only costs $20. The Brownsville Airport (BRO)
is only 30 minutes from SPI, which also has cheap bus transportation, or you can
rent a car. Once on the island, ‘The Wave’ is a free bus that will take you anywhere
you need to go. Just flag it down from the roadside and jump on board. Cab rides
are also available for a low price of $3 dollars per person.
CURRENCY
The currency on the South Padre Island is the US Dollar (USD). Numerous banks and
ATMs are within walking distance on the island in case you need money.

Air Padre Kiteboarding offers water sports rentals ranging from surfboards to SUPs.
Other outdoor activities on the island range from deep-sea fishing, nature walks
through estuaries, dolphin watches, shopping, parasailing, water parks, kayaking,
scuba diving or snorkelling, wakeboarding, horseback riding, dune buggies, and bungee
jumping. If you are feeling adventurous, make the trip across the border to Mexico,
located just 15 miles south.
