The Portsmouth Kite Festival, August 25th-26th

The last weekend in August was the kite festival by my home town in the south of England.

A local Best retailer, Traction Kites UK (TKUK), were putting on a demonstration of kite boarding on the land for the public over the weekend so we were all hoping for some wind. I traveled there with one of my friends who rides for the shop, Tom Kemp.

Unlucky for us, there was absolutely no wind and we were unable to kite at the event during our demo time.

We did however get one of my big kites, a Waroo Pro 17m, into the air which we could just about fly to show everyone what they looked like in the sky.

The event is mostly aimed towards smaller novelty kites and display kites. There were some really cool designs including a football, a huge fish and some big whale kites.

In the evening the wind picked up a little and we were able to get some jumps in.

Ade, a member of staff from TKUK, built us a really cool ramp to use in the demo. We got this out and rode it as well as we could in the light winds during the evening.

Frazer, the UK sales rep for Best, and Sebastian from Spain who is the EU Sales Manager came over on the Sunday for a little while. There was even less wind than the day before which was a real shame. Maybe next year we can get a demo on; I’ve found a forecast in advance which would be nice.
