Mein Name ist Alex Brown, ich bin wirklick gut!
So now the winter is in, and I've run out of sliders to shoot in my home town. So last week, I flew to Austria to go shoot video and go snowkiting with Flo, our Austrian rep, and Wolfie, one of his riders.
From Vienna, where we started, our first stop was a world class resort called Obertauern, about a 3 hour drive from Flo's home. We stayed at a 5-star hotel, which had incredible services and people. Our host, Antje, sorted us out with lift passes for when the wind wasn't blowing, the best food I've eaten in a long time and more. It was awesome. I had a couple of days on the snow to get back into it; I haven't been snowboarding in about 3 years! I quickly realised how much I've been missing out on.
The wind started to blow over the weekend, so we set up a slider and some benches to jibe on. We're using the Bularoo out here; I couldn't imagine using anything else! It's perfect: one pump, solid, perfect at unhooked ... I'm surprised that I don't see many people riding Bularoos. Definitely the most underrated kite of the year.
On Tuesday morning, after a night shoot in Obertauern, we got back onto the road towards Switzerland. It was a gnarly 7-hour drive, but we arrived amped and ready to get onto the snow. It's SERIOUSLY cold here, with wind chill its like -20. But we are tough guys; we pumped up for a quick ride before the sun disappeared behind the mountains.
All week we have been shooting pictures and movie, just wait for it, there is some sick shit! Snowkiting is the ultimate kite sport: you have the board feeling like on the water, and then you have the exploration like you get on the land. It's so easy to jump on the snow with some land or water experience and get cracking. Just make sure you get a warm hat!
We are setting of for France tonight to go to the Snow Kite Masters event. I just decided that I'm going to compete. Wolfie is going for the hang time record (5 minutes), and Flo wants to claim Mr Kiteloop 2007. SSSSSIIIIIIICCCCCCCKKKKK.
Oh, it's also my little sister Alice's birthday today, so Happy 14th Birthday, little one!
